Capital Expenditure vs Recurrent Expenditure

Recurrent expenditure covers the day-to-day costs of running the government. This includes salaries, utilities, supplies, and routine services that must be paid every year.

Capital expenditure refers to long-term investments such as buildings, roads, bridges, and major infrastructure. These projects usually take longer to complete and involve planning, procurement, and construction.

Many community issues relate to either maintenance (recurrent spending) or infrastructure development (capital spending). Understanding the difference helps citizens better interpret government actions.
